STATISTICAL (THOUGH NOT NECESSARILY STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT) TIDBIT OF THE DAY ON THE 13-6 N.Y. METS

Met pitchers and pinch-hitters (Franco, Endy & Newhan) are hitting 286/359*/443, with 11 Runs & 7 RBI through 19 games.

You get a ~.360 on-base percentage out of the nine hole, you're gonna score A LOT of runs. No wonder Jose Reyes is among the league leaders in RBI.

Obviously this won't last, but these are the little things that help teams put up those crooked numbers while their 4 & 5 hitters are struggling so mightily. Think about it: the Mets are averaging about 6 runs a game through nearly 1/8 of the season, and neither Delgado nor Wright has really contributed.

Just wait til they face the dread juggernaut of the Washington Nationals, my friend. Then all your stats will crumble.

Of course when Wright and Delgado get hot, Green and others (collectively known as the 9 hole, which sounds dirtier than it is) will cool, and the equilibrium that is a 162-game baseball season will exert its usual magic.

I've gotta admit that I've finally joined the "what the fuck has happened to David Wright?" bandwagon -- like 80 games after the rest of you hopped aboard.

I was gonna joke that he was the next Tommy Herr, but then I noticed that his batting average is down.

Thrill -

Better teams than the '07 Mets (and they're pretty good) have seen their seasons collapse by failing to beat poor teams (and the '07 Nats are pretty poor.)

I can see Zimmerman taking Wagner deep on a game-winning HR right now.

It usually does. I'm sure Green'll cool. But as Apple notes, will Wright get hot long enough to hit at rthe level we expect? Or hot enough to end the season with 14 HRs?

Welcome to the bandwagon. It's not a pleasant ride.

Wright damn well better remember he can hit--he's killing both the Mets and my fantasy baseball team.

Yeah, those 4 RBIs and 0 homers can't be helping.
