I CAN'T EVEN COME UP WITH A CLEVER TITLE WITHOUT HATING MYSELF FOR IT

Apparently, scientists have discovered a colony of rare birds, thought to be on the verge of extinction. And what species of bird is it? Vulture.

And in what country did the scientists find this colony? Cambodia.

No way, not me. Uh-uh, I'm not going there.

(I'm not. There are lines even I won't cross.)

Mike,
Is your point that slender billed vultures survived in Cambodia because of the availability of human carrion from the Pol Pot era? Otherwise the reference is over my head. At any rate, vultures benefit mightily from highways. That makes available lots of non-contaminated opossums, armadillos (know hereabouts as “hard-shell possums”) raccoons and skunks. So the Cambodian Audubon Society should lobby for more highway construction.

On to things legal—I am surprised you haven’t posted regarding the “Scooter” Libby trial. I think the prosecution completes its case today. My fervent hope is that the defense will call Cheney to the stand and that he will perjure himself and be charged with it.

I won't dissuade you from that interpretation.

Strangely (or not) for a lawyer, I tend not to closely follow "big time" trials, "trials of the century," etc. I find it frustrating to parse the legally significantly from the merely news-worthy. Plus, a snarky post here or there not withstanding, I get depressed if I follow human misery too closely.

As to Scooter's trial in particular, I'm a bit politicked-out lately. I go through these phases, so I know I'll get the bug back. But right now I know Cheney's a prick, and I hope he goes down hard -- civilly, politically, criminally, spiritually, all of the above. The details and specifics are of no consequence to me.

Speaking of lines to cross, I have to fight the urge to bring together Cheney and vultures here. I mean, if I'm against the death penalty, I can't wish him that ill.

But after he dies whatever death the fate's have in store for him, can I imagine him as carrion with a clear conscience?

The Neighborhood is a BYOC zone -- the "C" being conscience, not carrion; I prefer the rotting flesh left outside, sorry. And Cheney's certainly not welcome.

You're welcome to hang here with or without conscience, karma, morality, what-have-you.
