As of the Summer of '67, it wasn't clear whether Jimi Hendrix or Ned Walters would be annointed "Voodoo Child" for eternity. But at the end of the day, folks felt that Ned's trick of playing the guitar as he balanced it on his belly just wasn't as compelling as Jimi's behind-the-back move.
Nevertheless, Jimi later admitted he copied his "hump the guitar, then light it on fire" act directly from Ned's legendary show at Winston-Salem in August of '66.

I really want to see the You Tube of Ned's legendary show at Winston-Salem in August of '66.
Nice one, Mike. I think Ned had to forego the burning guitar trick because of his polyester shirt; looks like that would go pretty quick.
The You Tube has been pulled . . . to protect the children.
Ned was famous for his polyester back in the day. In the Fat Elvis sort of way.
Another thing Ned has over Jimi is that he never choked to death on his own vomit.
Well, at least not yet.
