RANDOM FLICKR BLOGGING # 3588

Steve. A Zoo. Two plus two.

"0702_3588.JPG," uploaded by "jeffdphoto" on July 23, 2006:

No silly caption, no heavy thoughts, not even anything to say about the picture.

Just wanted to note that this street is about 10 minutes from my place, in lovely Astoria, NY.

Oh . . . and neither of the two fellas in the picture are me.

I think I saw that the guy on the left is being sought by the CDC. You wouldn't know them anyway; they're from Floral Park.

That guy in the back in the striped-shirt is you, though, admit it.

steve h. is correct, the guy on the left is coughing his head off. That drug resistant TB is hard to kick, eh. I wouldn't have thought either of those guys is you, didn't you say you were in your 30s not too long ago? They might be your daddy though... ;-)

Nah, he could be yawning, or even burping. Or just really shocked that George W. Bush hasn't been impeached yet. :)

It's possible that one of those guys is me, however.

It is possible the guy on the left is practicing duck calls. When is teal season in southern New York?

The duck, or the fashion color? Actually I think both are in the fall.

Takes on a few movies we've invited to our home recently:

Premonition - watched this one this past weekend. I found it a bit weak, but not deadly boring. 3 stars.

Pan's Labyrinth - wow I really recommend this one. It is a very odd movie, definately not for kids (violence). Set in Franco Spain at the time of the D-Day invasion, subtitles. I encourage you to try this one. 4 stars.

Apocalypto - I really didn't like this one. It seems to consist mainly of a guy running back and forth in the forest for reasons unknown. Tons of blood. 2 stars.

Mulholland Drive - am I the only one that hadn't seen this one? An oddly compelling film, with a bit of soft porn type sex. The film has a quality that leads me to believe the director was either incompetent or too clever by half. In an effort to make an edgy psycho thriller he made a film that's very difficult to understand. 2 weeks after I saw it I was still trying to figure it out - that's the compelling part. 3 stars.

We also watched a few that were recommended here, Brazil (liked it), Children of Men (didn't like it much).

Pan's Labyrinth was very good, indeed. Very sad; very good.

David Lynch directed Mullholland Drive. Not a Lynch fan; never saw it.

(Though as a Naomi Watts fan, I'm tempted to check it out one of these days.)

You get to see her boobs.

Actually she's the film's greatest...um...asset. Its not a terrible film, I'd just recommend being prepared to be baffled, and perhaps watch it twice.
