HOW IS THIS STILL A "DEBATE"?
According to AP:
Not to mention, President Bush's "request"? Did he say please?
Democrats are debating whether to approve $50 billion to $70 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan, less than half of President Bush's $196 billion request but enough to keep the wars afloat for several more months.Democrats are "debating"? Uhhh, weren't they pretty much told what to do one year ago when we put them in control of the purse strings?

You're spot on--what happened to the mandate we gave the Democrats when we voted them in? You know damn well Bush had no problem exercising his "mandate" when he was re-elected.
Frankly, it's not a debate as much as a study in pure spinelessness. For the Democrats, being perceived as "unpatriotic" is more important than U.S. troops dying in a futile war.
I'll second Rickey's post.
I realize there aren't enough Dems to override a veto, but if they were serious about ending our involvement in Iraq, they'd continue to fight the president and the hawks on it.
But they always seem to blink first.
Well, at least the Democrats debated the real issues last night, like Dennis Kucinich's claimed UFO sighting.
No fooling.
THE SNEER AND THEN THE SMIRK
The sneer and then the smirk,
Then fear--or if that work
Not well to counter reason
Alleging then a treason.
The modus operandi
Is simple, goes like brandy,
But I am sipping wine:
To me it is not fine.
The smirk and then the sneer,
Some promised perk, then fear,
Fear more than all can goad us,
Prod us, and so their modus
Continues as effective:
Each person so protective
Of his small sphere, forgets
The world, and so he lets.
