SIMPLY PUT . . .
Lately I've blogged less frequently than Paul Thomas Anderson has released movies . . .
. . . and I've discussed the Mets about as often as Eternal Captain Keith Hernandez has worked back-to-back series.
But both those streaks end TODAY, as the Mets extend theirs to four games. The substance of my post is but one word:
Pedro.
Ooooo, that feels good, don't it?

22 games left, you guys are out front by 5. You've won 3 in a row and you're 5-5 over the last 10. Hmpf.
Hopefully Milwaukee wins the central over the Cubs. Then you get San Diego in the west and Arizona as the WC (or vice versa).
I say I hope Milwaukee beats out the Cubs because I detest the Cubs. Like the Yankees, Boston and Atlanta they and their fans are the narcissistic cloacae of baseball.
Unfortunately, due almost entirely to a one man wrecking crew that managed to destroy a world-class franchise in 2 years, I cannot root for a real baseball team this year. Fortunately for you guys I dislike your least among contending "baseball teams" - although you certainly suck heavily.
Gee, thanks for the kind words, Dwilkers.
And who's the one man wrecking crew? Drayton? Garner? Biggio?
Tim Purpura, our former GM. I'd list his mistakes but they are legion.
You guys don't want to read that rant anyway, because, you know, y'all have a real ball club.
Garner made some weird moves this year but he isn't the one that destroyed this team's roster and farm system.
A lot of Houston fans dump on Drayton but they have short memories. I remember when we had a crappy owner, and Drayton isn't one.
Biggio and Bagwell...well let's just say I am re-evaluating my criticism of their play the last few years based on the utter CRAP play I'm watching now. I expect in a few years I'll look back at Bidge and Bags with a tiny tear in my eye.
Me? I'm rooting for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Orange County, CA, USA.
the Los Angeles Angels
You mean "The The Angels Angels"? I thought everyone in Southern California spoke Spanish?
Anyhow, your boys are playing good ball. NOT the time I'd want to see my squad facing come October, not with Vlad & Cabrera, and K-Rod and friends.
Good to see you posting again buddy. Rickey would say that the regularity of your posts was approaching Terrence Malick territory.
Good to see you posting again buddy.
You're way too optimistic, Rickey.
the regularity of your posts was approaching Terrence Malick territory.
As it stands, both PT and Terrence have made 4 movies each, but one made his first film shortly after the other was born. Give me a two-months-without-a-post stretch and we can invoke Malick.
Not yet.
Welp, we'll be in NY tonight, and it will be Biggio's last series there. I expect you guys to put on a good show and give Biggio gifts and all that hooey like everyone else has. The smarmier the celebration the better.
Just don't watch the Astros closely if you are a fan of good defense.
Only thing I "expect" is an extreme three game thrashing of a bad team.
As to Biggio, he's a Long Island boy, so I assume he'll be treated quite well.
Fortunately I didn't make the post I had typed out predicting a win last night. I ended up running out of time and simply forgot to finish and post it.
FWIW I though Pelfrey looked vulnerable last night. Lucky for him he was facing the disAstros.
And oh by the way, that was a great throw by Beltran from shallow center to home last night. Not that he'd have got the out, looked to me like he would have been safe anyway. Still, that was one seriously bad throw. Maybe he slipped or something, but it didn't look like it on the replay.
the disAstros
That's funny. Did you make it up?
No, I'm afraid I didn't, much as I'd like to take credit. That's been around since I was a kid.
Thank goodness I have a DVR and can watch football today while grilling so I don't have to watch another horrid baseball game.
Did you see that laughable play by Berkman early on yesterday? The one where the ball rolled around in circles at his feet allowing one of your sucky players to get to first even though he wasn't running the play out?
I've been watching that kinda shiat all year. My daughter's fast-pitch softball team usually plays better than that. Our guys just don't care and it shows big time.
I still blame you for Delgado.
(Good call, though.)
David Wright is good at baseball.
OK, now we can really say "Pedro!"
And imagine the season Wright would be having if he started playing it in April and not May?
Allow Rickey to revise his previous statement Mike. The posting here occurs with the equal regularity of the Mets winning two consecutive N.L. East titles. Which is to say, never.
(See how Rickey wove in a little something cheerful there?)
