SEVEN YEARS LATER . . .
. . . and still nothing but a big hole in the ground.
A hole which still serves as the sacred relic of the God of Fear to which we're told we must bow in reverence and obeisance.
(Or at least one half of the November tickets tells us so.)

And just think, the Empire State Building was built in one year. Sigh...
The conspiracy theorist in me says that plans have been delayed to build on that site for this very reason: an alection year, a close election and the need for a reminder that benefits republicans.
Those asshats have used 9-11 over and fucking over to the point where it became a fucking joke (I'm lookin' at you, Rudy), and then have the nerve to get all pissy when you call them on their gratuitous use.
I think that in many ways, the best memorial we could erect to those who lost their lives on 9/11 would be to rebuild, regroup, and move forward.
You want to talk about honoring America? Honoring America means respecting America and what it stands for, and recognizing and appreciating the contributions of its citizens and the loss of life incurred in the sacrifice for the democratic ideals exemplified here. No better way to do both than to rebuild with pride and sense and joy, to put people back to work, to revitalize the area, and to erect a living memorial to those who have died, so they may live on forever in our hearts and minds.
THAT'S how you do it. :)
Aren't they going to turn the place into a mini police state with more security apparati than the green zone?
I'm INOTBB, and I agree with all the above messages.
I still think they need to put in a park and community gardens there.
Make it a place of healing.
But my vote isn't counted.
And that wouldn't cost billions in no bid contracts.
Amen, and wasn't it just a coincidence that on the very same day, "a long lost" tape surfaced on the net of McCain returning from being a war prisoner, and Sarah
The Impaler's putrid, lie ridden interview on ABC aired.
Note to the small, but same portion of the electorate.
Like most Republican wing nusts, she's not just ready to go to war, she's eager.
"Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today, don't wan't to be a part of it, the U. S. A."
That should be the sane portion.
Greetings sir. On an unrelated note, Rickey's running a live chat at 7pm tonight during the Mets game.
Deb--exceptionally well said.
Mrs. WFTA and I are battening down our mutual hatch for the approach of Ike. No flashlight but plenty of booze and grillables. See you on the other side.
Good luck, WFTA.
Assuming the hurricane spares your asses, Darkness, Booze, & Wife ain't too bad a way to spend a Friday night.
Save the grillables for Saturday morn.
